Canvas-Instructure Training Site Cyber Attack & Maintenance

5/7/2026

TUESDAY, 5/12 UPDATE FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS:
We have implemented a new on-line class portal for course review materials and the Final Exam.  Enrolled students who have not yet passed their Final Exam must now re-register with our new Learning Management System:  Zoho Learn.

E-mails were sent on Monday, 5/11 and Tuesday, 5/12 to all enrolled students with instructions and a link to create a new student account with Zoho Learn.  Please check your spam/junk folder if you have not yet seen either of these e-mails.

(An initial enrollment setting was creating an error message for some students attempting to Sign Up with Zoho Learn.  This has been corrected as of this morning.  If you tried to Sign Up with Zoho Learn and received an error message, please use the same link to finalize your registration.)

If you have any questions about the new Zoho Learn class portal, or need the student Sign Up link re-sent, please CLICK HERE to contact us.

We are thankful for your patience and understanding as we work through this necessary systems change.

Click "Read More" below for more detailed information about how the Canvas-Instruture Cybersecurity event impacted our operations ...

MONDAY, 5/11 UPDATE:  Graduates of the LTCCP® training program do not need to take any new action.  Use of the Canvas LMS was only required for students still studying for and taking the Final Exam.  Graduates are encouraged to follow good cybersecurity protocols as outlined in our earlier communications below.  Graduates can contact us directly with any questions.

LTCCP® and our parent company, LTC Claims Training, LLC, still have NOT been notified by Canvas-Instructure that any of our course or student information was compromised in the cyber attacks.  While this is good news, the investigations are continuing, and you should continue to use caution with all of your online activities.

FOR EXISTING STUDENTS who are newly enrolled, or for those who have not yet taken their Final Exam, you will receive an e-mail directly from us by the end of the day today with instructions about how to access our new on-line class portal hosted by Zoho Learn.

SUNDAY, 5/10 UPDATE:  LTCCP® is in the process of moving it's on-line Learning Management System to a new vendor.  The Final Exam, live Zoom class registrations, and resource downloads will be available for enrolled students on Monday, May 11th.  The chapter review quizzes will be added to the new system over the next few days.

All enrolled students will receive an email with information and instructions for accessing the new on-line LMS portal.

Students who have passed the Final Exam do not need to take any further action.

Here is the most recent security update and FAQ from Canvas-Instructure:

https://www.instructure.com/incident_update

We have still NOT been contacted regarding the exposure of any of our student information.

FRIDAY 5/8 UPDATE:  It appears that the Canvas LMS system that LTCCP® has used for online review resources and to administer the course final exam will remain inactive indefinitely, and may not be usable for us going forward.

We are establishing a new Learning Management System with a new vendor for on-line self-study, review, and to host the Final Exam.  We hope to have on-line access to the LTCCP® Final Exam available by no later than Monday, May 11th.

Additional resources, including chapter review quizzes and resource downloads will be added to the new system as quickly as possible.

For students who have not yet passed their Final Exam, we will be contacting you directly with information about how to access the new system.

For graduates who have passed the Final Exam and earned the LTCCP® certification, you do not need to do anything new, other than to use caution with other passwords and to practice good cyber security procedures as we note below.

5/8/2026 CANVAS SECURITY UPDATE:
We still have not been notified directly by Canvas-Instructure if any of the LTCCP® student name, email, or password data was compromised.  It appears that access to the previous Canvas LMS system may not ever be restored for LTCCP® or our students - this is to protect against any further security breaches, but will prevent us from any use or other updates as well.

As noted below, out of an abundance of caution we strongly recommend you review ALL of your passwords and update any that were the same as, or similar to, the password you may have used in your Canvas student account.

In addition, you should assume that any emails that appear to come directly from Canvas-Instructure are dangerous phishing attempts - delete them without opening, and:
  • Do NOT attempt to access Canvas through alternate links, email links, or bookmarks until further notice.
  • Do NOT click on any links, download files, or respond to any messages related to pop-ups or messages from Canvas.

As of Thursday afternoon, May 7th, the LTCCP® online class portal that is hosted by Canvas-Instructure is down for maintenance.  We do not know how long this condition will last, but are expecting the site to be accessible again soon.  [AS NOTED ABOVE, OUR ACCESS MAY NEVER BE RESTORED.]  Check back here for any updates as we are aware of them.

You can also view the Canvas-Instructure site status at:

https://status.instructure.com/

LTCCP® uses the Canvas LMS system only.

It has come to our attention through media reports that Canvas-Instructure - one of the largest on-line learning platforms used by most major universities and other educational institutions worldwide, and the engine used by LTCCP® to provide on-line class resources and the final exam - was the victim of a cyber attack that exposed data likely including user identifiers such as names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and some user messages.

LTCCP® and our parent company LTC Claims Training, LLC, have NOT been informed by Canvas-Instruture that our course or students' information have been exposed or are part of this cybersecurity event.  We are sharing this information out of an abundance of caution.

We store NO personal, financial, or class registration data with Canvas-Instructure.  The only data related to the LTCCP® course that is stored at Canvas-Instructure is limited to what was required for a basic student enrollment in our course:
  • Your name
  • Email used to register as a student with Canvas
  • Password created during Canvas registration

LTCCP® does not use any of the messaging or chat features within Canvas.

We do not yet know if passwords were accessed, but out of an abundance of caution, you should presume that your Canvas log-in password was accessed.  As soon as possible when the current site maintenance is complete, you should change your Canvas password, and if you used a "common" password on other sites, those passwords should be changed ASAP as well.

In addition, cybersecurity experts expect this data breach to lead to a wave of new phishing attempts, especially disguised as messages from Canvas-Instructure.  Therefore we also advise that you NOT open any direct emails from Canvas-Instructure (which you should not ever need for anything related to the LTCCP® course).

In addition:

  • Do NOT attempt to access Canvas through alternate links, email links, or bookmarks until further notice.
  • Do NOT click on any links, download files, or respond to any messages related to pop-ups or messages from Canvas.

We will post updates here as we learn more about this situation.  Use this site's CONTACT form if you have questions about this.
